Summary

The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2021 season with a win total of 9.5.  After getting off to a record setting pace in the first five games of 2020, the team lost Dak Prescott to injury. He enters 2021 with some uncertainty around his health, but bettors would be wise to ask if that record pace can continue this season. The team is loaded with weapons, but will consistently be in shootouts with a defense that allowed nearly 30 points a season ago doing little to improve.

Good morning, everyone, the simple Hennigap for Thursday, August 26th. Thank you for making me a part of your morning.

Moving into the top 10 of NFL team previews today, looking at the Dallas Cowboys as the ninth rated team in the league for my power ratings, a rating of 65, a win total for the Cowboys, nine and a half. So this is a little bit lower than some of the teams we've been talking about in the last couple of days, but there is a lot of potential upside. And for the most part, a very favorable schedule that we'll get into. But today, I promise, is going to be a lot better than what I talked about yesterday with

0:38.6

Seattle. Hopefully a team we don't have to talk about too much, especially anymore from a preseason

0:43.3

or preview perspective. I'll start by saying that we're maybe a little bit too excited about

0:52.0

Dallas when it comes to Dak Prescott and the offense.

0:57.7

Last season, he played five games of 40 injury.

1:01.0

He was on pace for 5,900 yards.

1:03.9

So the offense was working.

1:05.7

They were able to move the ball down field.

1:07.9

They were able to attack deep.

1:09.7

The play action game was fantastic. They were a little

1:11.9

bit unlucky with the turnover situation. It ultimately cost them quite a bit. But there's no

1:16.8

question that they were absolutely clicking. However, what they were not doing was winning.

1:24.8

In the games that Prescott finished, the Cowboys won just one time. They went

1:29.4

one in three. And then obviously when you move into guys like Andy Dalton and Ben Danucci and

1:34.9

Garrett Gilbert, things will teeter off. So we'll kind of throw that out. But in general,

1:39.3

it's a little bit difficult to look back at last season and take a lot away from it. But

1:43.4

that 5,900-yard pace that's being

1:48.5

quoted in so many different previews was never realistic. This team was not going to sustain the way

1:56.8

that they were playing the first five weeks of the season last year.

2:07.6

And even though Kellynne Moore returns this year, and Prescott is as healthy as we believe he might be between the ankle and the shoulder, there's some issues going on there and some

2:11.8

uncertainty.
