Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth

of God. You're listening to Daily Truth. Therefore, an overseer must be above reproach.

In your notes, I've written this, this particular qualification is the top. It's at the very

top, not the very top, because I just gave one other, so that it's, you know, you get it. It's in the

top five, top two, whatever. It's in the top of both a list for qualifications for elders

in First Timothy three, our particular text today, and Titus 1, another list of qualifications

for elders. This is not a requirement of perfection.

We've got to be careful. What does it mean to be above reproach? We spoke of some of this last week.

Let's look at it a little bit more in detail now. The Greek word conveys the idea of not possessing

anything in one's life that Satan might be able to use against you.

Simply put, an elder must not be living a double life. He must be a man of integrity.

He cannot be a hypocrite. When he sins, because above reproach does not mean sinless perfection,

only Christ is sinlessly perfect. So an elder will sin. He's a qualified man,

but not a sinless man. So when he sins, he judges himself. An elder is qualified when at those

times where he does in fact sin, the first person to confront him on his sin is him.

That's a wonderful sign of a man being qualified.
