Today is Friday. It is the 9th day of December. Good morning, Kathy.

Good morning. In the news this morning, Philadelphia police identified the child known as the boy in the box on Thursday during a news conference. The child was identified as Joseph Augustus Zarelli. Joseph was born on January 13, 1953, and is believed to be from West Philadelphia. The child's naked, badly bruised body was found on February 25, 1957, in a wooded area of Philadelphia's Fox Chase neighborhood.

The boy who was four years old had been wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a large

J.C. Penny Bassinet box. Police say he was malnourished and had been beaten to death.

Police said both of Joseph's parents are dead, but he has living relatives. Out of respect

of the number of siblings, out of respect for the

number of siblings on both his mother and father's side, their parents' information remained

confidential. Police say they still do not know who is responsible for the child's death.

Philadelphia Captain Jason Smith says we have our suspicions as to who may be responsible,

but it would be irresponsible for me to share these suspicions as this remains an ongoing and active criminal investigation.

I have to believe that all this stuff, you know, right now they're keeping the family a bit

of a secret. That's all going to come out eventually.

I have a feeling they're going to solve this case, man.

I think they're going to figure out what happened.

Yeah, that'd be great uh you know

it's so so brutally horrifying uh there is though again uh to be able to put the name on the on the tombstone

to these yeah for for a life that was so short and so miserable this poor little boy

to get some restitution.

And also, if someone is still alive who did this,

the likelihood is pretty phenomenal.
