Good morning in the news this morning.

Powerful Philadelphia labor leader Johnny Doc Dockertie and city council member Bobby Hennon were found guilty of conspiracy charges by a jury after a week's long trial.

Doherty was convicted of eight counts including conspiracy and honest services fraud but acquitted of three counts of honest services fraud.

Jurors convicted Hennon of nine.

Hean of nine counts, including

both charges and federal, a federal program bribery, but acquitted him of eight fraud and bribery

counts. Prosecutors said that Doherty kept Heenan, a union electrician turned Philadelphia

City Council member on the payroll to help his union keep a tight grip on construction jobs.

During the six-week trial, the government played wiretaps of the pair speaking about Docherty's interest in issues before city council.

Everybody who assesses these sort of things and all the pundits are saying this is a tectonic shift in Philadelphia politics with this going down like this.

What that they were convicted? Yeah, yeah. Their convictions follow a lengthy FBI investigation

of activities within the chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

that Doherty leads, but will not mark the end of Docherty's legal woes. The longtime union

boss still faces at least one more federal trial based on charges in the sweeping 2019 indictment.

Defense lawyers insisted that there was no undue influence and argued that the city allows

council members to hold outside jobs.

The defense also questioned how it was a crime for union supporter, Heenan to side with Doherty

and the building trade workers he was elected to represent.
