Good morning in the news this morning.

A gunman surrendered early Thursday morning following a standoff with Philadelphia police that lasted more than seven hours, leaving six officers shot and three

others injured. It started sometime around 4.30 Wednesday when police attempted to serve a narcotics

warrant at a home along the 3,700 block of North 15th Street in the Tuyoga-Nicestown section of

the city. Police officers entered the house and once in the

kitchen area located towards the rear of the residence, gunshots rang out authorities said. The shooter fired

multiple rounds. Officers returned fire, many of whom had to escape through windows and doors to get away

from the barrage of bullets. As Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said, two police

officers remained trapped inside of the home for hours. However, at about 920, police said two police officers remained trapped inside of the

Richard Ross spoke to reporters this morning and they're not quite sure that the shooter knew that

they were inside the house. So apparently there's going to be some more details that'll be released

later. The gunman surrendered to authority shortly after midnight Thursday after speaking to

his attorney. 34-year-old Maurice Hill was taken to Temple University for evaluation and was released

a few hours later in police custody. Hill has been has a long criminal history of drug offenses

dating back to 2003.

It's pretty wild because this was unfolding.
