And now, Preston and Steve's news update with Kathy Romano.

0:13.2

Today is the 27th day of June to Tuesday. Good morning, Kathy.

0:16.6

Good morning. In the news this morning, yesterday Mayor Jim Kenney announced the results of a three-day narcotics bust in Kensington last week. It was a multi-agency effort that netted 175 arrests,

0:26.5

more than $1.4 million in drugs, and about 27 guns. Some of the seized items include 60 pounds

0:32.3

of marijuana, 1,200 grams of heroin, 850 grams of fentanyl, and $100,000 in cash.

0:38.4

Wow. It's a takedown of what officials are calling just the latest effort to clean up the

0:42.2

streets of Kensington. You know what they should do that should give that narcotics and give

0:45.6

it to the guys who completed the bridge. Yeah. Good job. What is happening in Kensington is unacceptable.

0:51.5

We cannot allow the continued operation of a drug market that exploits

0:55.9

and endangers our residents, said Kenny. So all of a sudden it's unacceptable? Not for like the last

1:05.5

stop and think, look at the amount of stuff they got. And this is not like a one-off. Stuff like this comes in all the time.

1:12.2

Officers and agents from all levels of law enforcement participated,

1:16.1

including the Philadelphia Police, FBI, DEA, and others.

1:19.6

Police say they are planning their next initiative and plan to target other neighborhoods.

1:23.5

I think something like this every now and again is a reminder that we are out here working behind the curtain. This is a result. This is what results look like, said police commissioner Danielle Outlaw. So there was something similar that happened. If you guys remember, a number of years ago, there was a huge drug bust at Boeing. There was a, you know, it was like, you know, pills and all that sort of stuff. And it was all going through.

1:45.2

I don't, yeah.

1:46.1

Yeah, but it was a huge effort by the DEA.

1:49.4

And I remember talking to somebody about this.

1:51.6

And after the huge bust was made, we're talking dozens of arrest, the person said, you know,

1:57.2

whoever is out there doing this stuff now, be careful because now there is a whole team and whole resources of people that have already wrapped up this thing and now they're on to the next one. So they've wrapped this thing up in Kensington and now, like you said, they're moving on to the next initiative. So if you feel like you've gotten away with some stuff for, you know, Scott, free for a little while.
