0:18.8	In the news this morning, an off-duty Philadelphia police officer was killed in a car crash while in his personal vehicle on his way home from work, according to authorities.
0:27.4	It happened just after midnight Friday at the intersection of Bustleton Avenue and Renard Street in the city Somerton section.
0:33.5	Chief Inspector Scott Small said the officer just finished work and was a few blocks from his home when the crash happened.
0:39.2	The off-duty officer was 50 years old and had 27 years with the police department.
0:43.7	According to police, an 18-year-old was driving a BMW at a high rate of speed on Bustleton Avenue when he teabone the officer who was traveling on Renard Street.
0:51.8	The BNW struck the passenger side of the officer's Hyundai sedan.
0:55.5	After the impact, the 18-year-old then crashed head-on into a tree.
0:58.5	The teenage driver and the 16- and 17-year-old passengers who were in the car with him suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
1:05.5	Police said medics rushed the officer to the hospital where police said he was pronounced dead.
1:10.2	What a nightmare.
1:10.9	Yeah, awful. Small said it doesn't appear that the driver of the striking vehicle was impaired in any way.
1:15.6	He also passed a field sobriety test. Officers released the 18-year-old to his family.
1:20.1	Small said this is an ongoing investigation that charges are still possible as they work to gather
1:24.4	additional evidence. Tesla's new car factories in Texas and Berlin are losing billions of dollars as they struggle to increase production because of a shortage of batteries and China port issues.
