Good morning in the news this morning. A Philadelphia police officer opened fire on a gunman in the city's Frankfurt section.

This marks the second time this week. Officers have opened fire believing they were under threat.

The police involved shooting happening Thursday just before 1 a.m. on the 1,500 block of Pratt Street.

According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, a 15th District officer was on patrol in the area when he heard gunshots and saw a male gunman firing shots at the intersection of Frankfurt and Pratt. Small said the officer, who was in full uniform, exited his vehicle. The 29-year-old gunman pointed the gunman at the officer. The officer then fired several shots at the gunman. Police said the suspect was not hit by the officer's gunfire. The suspect ran from the scene. The officer, along with several septa officers

who were stationed on the block, chased the gunman on foot. During the chase, Small said the suspect

threw the gun into a trash can in the 1600 block of Pratt Street. He was soon apprehended on the

same block and officers recovered the gun from the trash can. Small said police found three spent

shell casings from the suspect's gun at the initial

shooting scene, about 25 feet from that location. They found blood, but no victim. Minutes later,

officers learned a 34-year-old male shooting victim had been taken by a private vehicle to a nearby

hospital. He was shot in the face. The Philadelphia police officer involved shooting investigative

unit, internal affairs, and the crime scene unit were all investigating at the scene.

An alleged wire fraud, check fraud, and mail theft ring has been uncovered in Delaware County.

Yaden police say there are 22 victims from that borough alone and fear that there may be more in all of the surrounding counties.

The victims were robbed of more than $125,000.

The suspects got a key from a mail carrier, though it's not clear if it was voluntary or through

theft.

They then used it to steal a white mail bin with checks inside.

Investigators say the checks were washed with solution, forged, and deposited into
