Good morning in the news this morning. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro provided more details on Wednesday about the work that will be done to reopen I-95 in Philadelphia.

During a news conference, Shapiro said the plan is to fill the gap with backfill and then pave over it to create a temporary roadway and get the highway open again.

Philadelphia-based contractor Buckley & Company has been hired to do the work.

The same company rebuilt a section of I-95 in Port Richmond following a 1996 arson.

Shapiro said they expect the first loads of backfill to arrive on-site Thursday.

Secretary of State Mike Carroll said the backfill is a lightweight material, a recycled glass-type product that is reusable.

Yeah, they finished the demo. They got it done. Unbelievable. From what I saw, they're going to be finishing it today. They'll be finished today. Crazy. They're so much. They are really, they're non-stop working on that. Yeah. And it should be celebrating because there's so much that you can complain about. And here's something where they're really taking the proverbial bull by the horns and moving ahead at lightning speed.

I mean, they're smart. They have to. They've got to get 95. It's going to be engineered in a way

that will be completely reliable for the traveling public, said Carol. There will be three

lanes open in each direction while the state then works to rebuild a permanent bridge

to replace the section that collapsed. As for the remains of the current bridge, Shapiro said demolition is

expected to be completed Thursday. I think they're saying a full monorail system by next Tuesday.

No, stop. Come on. So, okay, so, so does that, I guess then the road below it is going to be gone

for a little while, right? We would assume. If they're filling in and bathing right there. This is to get the 95 traffic on that. No, I know, but I'm just saying it fell onto that, to a road that was, you know, people traveled on. So I'm assuming that's gone. And then they're just going to build on top of it so they can keep that opened underneath while they built, right? And then eventually the lower part will be redone. But the top part first, yeah. Yeah. So for a little while they do this, that's going to be, you're not going to obviously be able to travel across. So there will, as for the remains of the current bridge, oh, Shapiro said it'll be done today.

Shapiro and other officials said the work will be done as quickly as possible, but they gave no timeline.

So for now, I-95 will remain closed in both directions for weeks.

The Philadelphia Zoo is investigating why all five mere cats at the Zoo died this month after an apparently accidental poisoning.

Rachel Metz, the zoo's vice president of animal well-being, said a necropsy result were pending,

but zookeepers suspect the poisoning was linked to the dye used to differentiate the near-identical meerkats.
