In the news this morning, Kate Spade, who created the iconic accessible handbag line that bridged Main Street and high-end fashion died yesterday in her Manhattan apartment of an apparent suicide. Police responded at 10.10 a.m. after Spade was found by her housekeeper, NYPD chief of detective said Spade was found hanged by a scarf. She allegedly tied to a doorknob. A suicide note was

found at the scene. Police said Spade addressed her daughter and referenced her husband in the note

according to two NYPD sources. So sad. I had no idea that, well, I guess I should have put two and two

together that David Spade is her brother-in-law. Brother-in-law, yeah.

The 55-year-old designer started Kate Spade, New York in 1993,

and opened her first shop in the city three years later.

Best known for her colorful handbags, Kate Spade,

has more than 140 retail shops and outlet stores across the United States and more than 175 stores internationally.

Now, over time, she distanced herself from the business in 1999.

She and her husband, Andy Spade, sold 56% of the brand to Neiman Marcus for $33.6 million.

Liz Claiborne acquired the company in 2007, and Spade left her namesake brand.

The luxury fashion company coach bought the brand in May of 2017 for $2.4 billion.

She built herself up from pretty much. Not a lot, right? She worked for a magazine. She worked

for Mademoiselle for a few years. And with her husband, Andy, she said to him one day, I saw

an interview with her. She said, or he told her, hey, why don't we do handbags? And she was like,

you can't just design a handbag and start a company. And he was like, why not? And sure enough, it led to that. Now, since she sold Kate Spade, she actually started a new handbag company with her husband. And I forget the name, but it is the name of her daughter, who is 13 years old. No kidding.

Yeah.
