In the news this morning, two suspects entered a suburban Denver school Tuesday afternoon and shot nine students, one fatally, before they apprehended him following a struggle with law enforcement according to local authorities. The deceased student has only been identified publicly as an 18-year-old male. The eight surviving victims, some as young as 15 years old, were taken to three different

hospitals, and at least three of them have already been discharged. The situation began just before

2 o'clock at the STEM School Highlands Ranch, a charter school in Highlands Ranch, about 15

miles south of Denver. Administrators called police after hearing gunfire in the middle school. The two

suspects are an adult male and a juvenile male who are both believed to be students at the school.

The sheriff identified the adult suspect as 18-year-old Devin Erickson.

The two students entered the campus and got deep inside of the school before opening fire in two separate classrooms in the high school.

At least one handgun has been recovered.

Neither suspect is believed to have any prior

contact with law enforcement. Approximately over 1,450 students are enrolled at the school. The

campus is just miles away from the Columbine High School. Kathy, I missed the beginning of the

story. Were they students at the school? Yeah, they think there were students. They said exactly.

I had a friend of mine, it's just a't said exactly. I had a friend of mine.

It's just a different world now.

I had a friend of mine who was telling me about his stepson who acts up in school and kind of says some inflammatory things to get kicked out of school. So he's got an issue with that. but he was telling me, and I didn't really debate him on this,

but he's like, you know, in our day,

they would have given him in school suspension and this and that. He's getting kicked out for several days in a row. And what I didn't say was, well, you know what, man, when we went to school, nobody came in and shot up to school. No pissed off student. They got to take those threats seriously. Even if it's just somebody acting up who's saying inflammatory things, it didn't used to happen. And that's why they have to take these drastic steps now. You're exactly right. Because there's a history of this now and there's a history of copycats. And there's things that they can reference. They see it. They just saw the anniversary of Columbine.
