And now, Preston and Steve's news updates with Kathy Romano.

Today is Tuesday, May 5th, Cinco de Mayo.

Good morning, Kathy.

Good morning.

In the news this morning, residents in southeastern Pennsylvania are waiting

0:21.5

in envy as parts of the Commonwealth prepare for the yellow phase of Governor Tom Wolfe's COVID-19

0:26.3

reopening plan. But what we want to know is when the Philadelphia region will move from red to yellow

0:31.0

and then ultimately green. The state's reopening plan went into effect last week, announcing

0:35.0

the first wave of counties headed into the yellow

0:37.5

phase Friday, May 8th. 24 counties from north central and northwestern Pennsylvania are preparing

this week. The restrictions are similar to the ones in the red stage, but still they're moving

0:50.0

into yellow. A significant portion of Pennsylvania's revenue comes from six counties in the southeastern part of the state, including Philadelphia.

Governor Tom Wolfe explained in a release last week the requirements. The counties were deemed ready to move to a reopening or yellow phase because of the low per capita case counts and the ability to conduct contact tracing and testing an appropriate population density to contain community spread.

But in order for other counties to catch up, there needs to be more widespread testing to know

1:15.7

how many people are affected. Delaware County Councilman Kevin Madden suggests nursing homes,

1:20.3

which make up a bulk of their cases, be counted separately from the rest of the population.

1:24.6

But Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine did not agree, saying that nursing homes are part of the community with the staff going back and forth. Kathy, they were trying to get people chazzed on this and they came over the slogan called Catch Yellow Fever and then they realized that was a mistake. Oh, yeah. No, that's a terrible slogan. No. Yeah, and they realized, no, historically, that's not good. Wow, that's so stupid. The Pennsylvania

Department of Health Monday said there are 825 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the

1:52.2

state's total to 50,092. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania do have cases of COVID-19, and on Monday,

1:58.6

the department reported 14 new deaths, bringing the statewide total to 2,458 in Pennsylvania. I'm glad they pointed that out about nursing homes because I mean, when I hear people just brushing that off, I'm like you can't that's just, that's ridiculous. I mean, these are human beings. I mean, come on. They're part of the community. Who's brushing it off? I'm just hearing numbers of all of these numbers are inflated and so forth. They were, you know, they were, they were on their way out anyway. You know, there's that attitude. Oh, that's a little dismissive. It's evil. I can't stand it. These are, these are human beings and every single one of these numbers count. So that's why we got to keep our eye on the ball. A Trump administration model projects a rise in coronavirus cases and deaths in the weeks ahead,

up to about 3,000 daily deaths in the United States by June 1st, according to the internal
