In the news this morning, a New York Police Department detective and a sergeant were shot while responding to a call about an armed robbery at a store in Queens

on Tuesday evening. The detective identified as Brian Simonson of the 102nd precinct detective squad

was killed by so-called friendly fire when several officers opened fire on an armed suspect,

according to Commissioner James O'Neill. Mayor Bill de Blasio and several other city officials came to Jamaica Hospital

Trauma Center to meet with the officers involved and their families. The sergeant who is

hit in the leg is also from the same precinct. He is expected to recover. A massive police presence

formed at Atlantic Avenue at 120th Street in Richmond Hill. Witnesses say that they heard multiple gunshots coming from the T-Mobile store and then saw

first responders rush down Atlantic Avenue.

Officers are going door to door looking for security cameras that may have captured what

happened.

The NYPD tweeted out a message yesterday saying, our hearts are broken again because of a career

criminal putting lives in

jeopardy. 42-year-old Brian Detective Simonson was a 19-year veteran of the NYPD. He lost his life

fighting crime and keeping safe all the people we serve. The sympathies of all New Yorkers are with

his family and his colleagues. Very sad. Thieves are stealing the tires and rims from

Honda Accords in northeast Philadelphia at an alarming rate, police say. One man had his brand

new 2018 Accords sitting on soda crates with all four tires gone when he walked out in the morning.
