Welcome back to another episode of the first pitch podcast, brought to you by Pitcherlist.com. My name is Jake Crumpler, and as always, I'll be your host for this edition of the pod. You can follow me on socials at Jake Crumpler and can find all of my work at Crumplerbaseball.com. Let's dive into everything baseball related from Wednesday, June 3rd. We'll start it off, as always, with the transactions, injuries, news and notes from around the league.

0:25.1

Starting with the bad news and the good news this week as the silver lining from the IL placements is that they were all pretty minor,

0:32.1

starting with reliever Matt Gage, who was placed on the 15-day aisle with knee inflammation.

0:36.6

He leads the Giants bullpen in appearances, and that's likely put a big toil, or big toll, sorry, on Cage's legs thus far, leading to the knee inflammation.

0:46.3

Reliever Dylan Smith was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.

0:49.8

Next, reliever Rob Zishrizni was placed on the 15-day aisle with a trapezius strain that is in your back or shoulder area. It has nothing to do with a trapeze, as I initially thought. Zistrisney is not in the circus, but he didn't even make an appearance since returning from his most recent aisle stint, so he's really struggled to stay healthy. Rob Zistrisney has as he heads back to the 15-day IL, and in a corresponding move, starting pitcher Robert Gasser was recall for the miners to start versus the Giants. He tossed five innings. He only allowed one and run. He looked really good, but it wasn't enough as the Brewers lost to the Giants. And lastly, infielder, Nick Sogarde, was placed on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain, which likely means so guard will miss somewhere around four to six weeks with that oblique strain. Third baseman Anthony Siegler was recalled for the minors in a corresponding move, and he'll be a backup utility infielder, and he can play almost all across the infield, first base, second base, third base, and catcher for Anthony Siegler. In terms of transactions, outfielder Nick Castellanos was designated for assignment by

1:47.3

the Padres.

1:48.3

He batted just 191 with a 53 WRC plus, so it was definitely warranted for him to be removed

1:53.8

from the 40-man roster outfielder.

1:55.5

Samad Taylor was selected from the miners in a corresponding move and will provide depth

1:59.8

off of the Padres bench.

2:01.7

Next starting pitcher, Jonah Tong was optioned to the miners by the Mets after allowing five

2:05.5

runs in his last appearance reliever Joey Gerber was recalled for the miners to provide more

2:10.0

traditional bullpen help. Outfielder T.J. Friedel next out was optioned to the miners. He struggled

2:16.2

to make contact this year with a near 8% increase in a strikeout rate to 24% leading to a 179 average and a 44 WRC plus for T.J Friedel.

2:25.7

So he'll head to the miners and outfielder, Noelvi, Marte will head back to the majors in a corresponding move.

2:30.6

Marte struggled to a negative 10 WRC plus in his first 11 games this year, got demoted

2:35.3

to AAA and then went absolutely off batting 369 with eight homers, nine steals, and a 155 WRC plus

2:42.4

in 40 games at AAA. And Marte isn't guaranteed regular playing time, but there's lots of position

2:48.4

flexibility in that Reds lineup so we could see some

2:51.9

guys shift around to get Marte some at bats. He did get a pinch hit at bat in his return to the majors
