But first the collect of today's Mass.

Grant us grace, we beseech thee, O Almighty God,

to follow with zeal conformable thereto

after the pattern of that great example of faith,

thy blessed martyr Peter, who, for the spreading of that same faith,

did so run as to obtain the palm of martyrdom.

At the end of the 12th century in the city of Verona, Italy,

St. Peter of Verona, was born to parents who followed the Manichaean heresy.

But even as a boy, Peter found the truth of the Catholic faith and embraced it wholeheartedly.

That early conversion set the course for his entire life.

As a young man, Peter traveled to Bologna to study,

and there he encountered one of the most powerful preachers of the age, St. Dominic.

Moved by Dominic's example and fire for truth, Peter entered the newly founded Dominican

order, receiving the habit directly from the saint himself.

From the very start, Peter was focused on preaching, especially reaching out to those

tempted by the Cathar heresy.

Like his mentor, he didn't just attack errors.
