I'm Brian. It's good to be here with you to greet a brand new shiny sparkly week.

I'm up pretty early again and the sun is rising and yeah,

brand new shiny shiny, sparkly, day, week.

New mercies, we get to start over again.

I'm glad that we could be here together to do that.

As we start this, we're moving into some new territory in the Bible.

We've finished the song of songs yesterday and that leads us into the book of Isaiah.

And we'll be camping out here for a bit.

Isaiah is a book of prophecy in the scriptures,

contained obviously in the Old Testament.

It's in a grouping of books known as the Major Profits and those other books include

Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel.

And Major Prophet, that's not like a distinction of importance.

They're called Major Profits because of the amount of material contained in the texts.

Isaiah has 66 chapters in it. It's one of the longest books in the Bible.

Whereas some of the books of prophecy known as the minor prophets will be things

that we can just read him one day. But Isaiah, and his name means the Lord

Saves, was a very passionate prophet in the Old Testament

and his writings are referred to. They're quoted throughout the New Testament. Jesus quotes from Isaiah eight times in the

Gospels. It was such an important text to Jesus that he recited from Isaiah chapter 61 as he inaugurated his ministry and declared his purpose.
