I am Brian.

It's great to be here with you around the global campfire.

I've been having a scratchy voice so sorry and kind of bouncing back.

But I'm grateful as I am every day to be here with you.

As we take the journey of a lifetime through the scriptures,

the journey to the center of our own souls.

It's not just the journey of a lifetime.

It's a challenge of a lifetime indeed.

So we're on this journey and in the Old Testament, we have read the entirety of First Samuel.

And that details, well, Samuel, whom Samuel was the last judge of Israel in some of his life.

And then he leads Israel to the era of the monarchy, a brand new era where Israel has a king,

and the tribes are united under this king. His name was Saul.

And we learned a lot about Saul

and probably a lot about ourselves in Saul.

And then a new figure emerges named David.

And there is a lot to learn about David and the enmeshment with Saul. And then Saul eventually

dies in battle with the Philistines. So that has happened. David was supposed to be in that

battle as a Philistine.

He went back to the village that he was given Ziklag,

only to find out that it had been raided and burned down
