It's wonderful to be here with you today as it is every day.

It's wonderful that we can take this next step forward together as a community.

And it's important that we do.

If we're going to finish this journey, get all the way through the scriptures,

so let's take the next step forward.

We're in the book of First Samuel. We are learning of, well, we're learning of Israel's kings at this point.

Israel has its first king, his name is Saul.

There's a man named David who has just come to international prominence for killing a

Philistine giant, his name is David, and their lives are kind of becoming intertwined.

First Samuel 18-5 through 19, verse 24

David went out wherever Saul sent him, he was successful.

So Saul put him in charge of a group of soldiers.

All the people approved, as did Saul's officials.

As the army was coming back from battle when David was returning from striking down

the Philistine, women came out from all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing

and dancing, with joyful music with hand drums and with

noise makers. The women sang to each other as they played. Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands.

Saul became furious because he resented this statement.

He said,
