To be here with you today as we gather and take the next step forward together. And that

0:20.6

next step forward will lead us back into the book of 1 Samuel, where we are very much

0:26.6

about to get to know David and the intertwining of David and Saul's lives. Now that David

0:34.1

has killed a giant in the Ilah Valley, a giant named Goliath, and now David is famous.

0:42.5

Overnight's celebrity, and he has a lot that he has to learn to deal with.

And so let's pick up the story. First Samuel, chapter 18, verse 5, through 19, verse 24 today.

2:17.6

2:25.6

He hurled this spear because he thought I will pin David to the wall. But David escaped from his

2:34.0

presence twice. Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with David but had departed from Saul.

2:42.9

So Saul sent David away from his court and made him a commander over a unit of a thousand.

2:49.2

So David led the army out to battle and back again. David was successful in everything he did,

2:56.5

and the Lord was with him. When Saul saw that David was so successful, he was even more afraid.
