Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian.

And it is wonderful to be here again together with you today.

Taking the next step forward and rapidly going through a lot,

a territory as the Bible winds its way to a close.

So today, as we end this week,

we will read an entire book in the Old Testament,

the book of Obadiah. And this is the shortest book in the Old

Testament. And even though Obadiah, like the name Obadiah is the identified name of the author,

like there's almost nothing known about him

other than his name means

servant of Yahweh?

Obadiah is not an entirely

uncommon name at this time, and so

dating the prophecy

is difficult.

It's like a general consensus among scholars that Obadiah is probably contemporary with Jeremiah.

And that is prophetic work is using Babylon's conquest of Jerusalem as its context.

And if that's the correct theory, then that would date Obadiah to the late 500s BCE. There's only 21 verses in the book of Obadiah. And yet it deals with

a much longer running family issue and herald's doom like complete destruction

for the edamites and you know it's not like we haven't heard the moabites and the edamites throughout

our reading this year but if we reflect back to the Moabites and the Edomites throughout our reading this year.
