Welcome to the Beat. I am Ari Melbert, and we are covering a lot of stories tonight. I have something special by the end of the hour, but let me start with something quite serious.

Law enforcement sources tell NBC news that the Manhattan DA, Alvin Bragg, has now received a formal death threat through a letter that was addressed to him that says, quote,

Alvin, I'm going to kill you, end quote, and obtained a white powder, however, that is at this

hour been deemed by authorities as non-hazardous. This is what's happening. We talked about last night why

it's not a drill. We've talked about over the course of the week why these kind of threats don't

work historically, but why Donald Trump, who's under investigation for abusing power,

for inciting an insurrection, whether he's ever charged for it, is now back at the same playbook.

He is out online using his platforms talking, I should say, to his followers about death and, quote,

destruction, and posting specifically violent imagery.

The New York probe is one part, though, of a much larger legal storm and as much noise as Donald Trump makes, and if there are threats that occur, we're going to report on them as

always, we have to understand that he is moving from a position of extreme weakness, even

perhaps fear or terror.

And so let me walk you through what's going on. In the

criminal coup probe, a federal judge has completely shredded the executive privilege claims.

That means Donald Trump's top aide who was at the center of everything. You remember Mark

Meadows? He must testify. That's something he evaded doing with any specificity in most of these probes, including the House Jan 6 probe.

That's a win for the special counsel, Jack Smith.

And we've seen how Trump and his aides have used executive privilege, which can be valid, as a way to try to completely avoid any cooperation whatsoever.

Meanwhile, other top Trump aides like Stephen Miller and Dan

Scovino also being compelled under oath. It's Meadows, who is most central. He was on the

receiving end of so many texts, so many plans, so many coup plots that he often passed on.
