Today's story comes from Cynthia Page.

In the 1970s, Cynthia was a young newly married copywriter living in New Jersey and working in Manhattan.

One night coming home from work, she missed her train.

So she decided to call her husband and let him know that she would be late.

In those days, pre-Sell-phone, making a phone call required a phone booth.

So I went into the station itself. making a phone call required phone booth.

So I went into the station itself, into the phone booth, called my husband, told him I would be late.

And when I hung up the phone and turned around,

the phone booth that I was standing in was completely surrounded by very

tall, very scary-looking men. I don't know what these people would have done. Maybe they were there just simply to scare me. All I can say is it was obvious that the intent was to absolutely obliterate me from the view of anyone else.

There was no way anyone could see

that I was in that phone booth.

It was such a shock. I'm not usually frightened of situations, but I was legitimately frightened. And just as I'm looking at these people and thinking what in the world am I going to do

out of literally nowhere comes this booming voice

angry comes this booming voice. Angry, come on, what are you doing? We are going to miss our train.

And it's like the Red Sea parted.
