Welcome back to the cutting edge podcast with Jack Marucci. I'm Maure Macalo. We're in here today with Coach West Johnson,

the pitching coach from LSU Baseball, and we're fired up to have another episode come to you guys.

Yeah, so to Jack. Yeah, so coach, I think, you know, we talked briefly before getting started today,

and we talked about the eyes and the processing of how a lot of the

information gets transmitted through the vision and myself and Mario got to watch a coach

several weeks ago and it was very impressive and how you were even looking at having the pitcher

look at different targets.

And sure enough, they would, you know, change, maybe it was a release point or, but they were, it really helped that picture,

locate that, that mitt and have a lot of accuracy. So if you want to talk a little bit about that and how you've come upon working that type of technique.

Oh, we could be here a long time, but I'll give you the short of it.

There was a great, I call him a biomechanist.

I don't know what his actual term was, a guy named Nikolai Bernstein.

And he had a concept that said the body will organize itself based on your ultimate goal.

And to move forward with that, it's kind of like I tell our guys all the time, you know,

if we're going to dunk on a Nerf hoop, right, because we can all do that,

we don't go up to that nerve hoop and raise our hand up and go

okay hey feet we got to jump up six inches we imagine a dunk in our mind we let our eyes look at the

rim and then we take off and our body starts to organize itself and the thing that

you find when you study the eyes and the brain and then the central nervous system

is you said it just a second ago it's not hand eye coordination it's eye hand

it's the other way around and so everybody's got a little different depth

perception as you know different different vision and things of that nature.
