The time has come to talk about taxes. Forget the European Union, forget the people's vote,

forget the royal baby, and don't even think about England beating Spain last night at football.

This morning we're talking about something much more important than all of that.

And of course, more specifically, it is your money.

Chancellor Philip Hammond has worked out that he doesn't have enough of it,

and he's launching a series of measures to get more of it.

He's going to tax wine, which is good.

He's going to tax private schools, also good,

and he's going to raise VAT and income tax, which is very, very bad indeed.

It's all because Theresa May announced that austerity has apparently worked and that it's now no longer necessary. Can anyone even tell me exactly what austerity is,

what it did, what it stopped us doing? Because I don't know the answer.
