This week we're going to curious about 1919.

To celebrate the new year, we thought it would be fun to learn about the year 1919, which was 100 years ago. What happened in 1919? How was life different in 1919? If you tuned into last week's episode curious about the moon, you heard us launch into space to get a closer look

at the moon. This week, we are going to take a time machine back 100 years to the year 1919. So buckle up

and let's get ready to learn. Before we get started, let's start with the question of the week.

The question of the week is,

how many states were in the United States? Great question. How many states were in the United States 100 years ago? So let's start off by discussing some inventions. Our first three inventions

will be things that were invented just before the year 1919, so they were still very new 100 years ago.

First off, we have Lincoln logs.

Little wooden logs, and you can build stuff with it.

That's right. Lincoln logs are made of wood, and you can use them to build lots of different things.

Lincoln logs were invented in the year 1916.

They were named after our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, because he was born in a log cabin.

They were a big hit and were eventually entered into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

In the same year, the supermarket was invented. You may be asking yourself, what kind of invention is the supermarket?

Before the year in 1960, you couldn't buy your own food.

Exactly. Before 1916, you would go to a general store where a clerk would pick your stuff to be purchased.
