Hello and welcome to another episode of I Way with Jameel Adjamel, a podcast against shame.

0:04.4

I hope you're well and I can't believe that we're coming up to three years of this podcast.

0:10.6

Thank you so much to all of you who've been listening from the start. I really can't believe that

0:15.9

it's been this long and I can't believe how many people I've spoken to but sometimes it freaks me out

0:20.0

because I'm like fuck who else? Who else is there? Who's going to be willing to talk to me,

0:24.2

especially because I don't leave my house and I don't meet anyone and I spend most of my time with

0:29.1

my boyfriend, my flatmates and my dog. So I never know how I'm even going to gain access. Obviously

0:34.5

there's so many fascinating people from all over the world. I get really intimidated but sometimes

0:39.7

that guest falls right into my lap and that's exactly how it happened with Amanda Montel. She has

0:44.4

a perfect example of why I should never give up and I should always keep looking in the most

0:49.6

unexpected places for fascinating people who can come onto this podcast and teach me and maybe

0:55.2

enlighten you in some way. I met her at a pool party which is somewhere that you can never find

1:00.7

me. I think it was my first ever pool party. Normally I avoid them at all cost and everyone there,

1:06.9

everyone at the party had bought their swimsuit and everyone was super cool and comfortable and

1:10.8

casual and having loads of fun in the water and I just fucking couldn't bring myself to participate

1:17.3

but I didn't want to leave because everyone was so nice and it was my friend's party. So instead I

1:21.9

decided to sit next to the pool, the only person outside of the pool dressed head to toe wearing an

1:27.7

industrial strength, a purple boy, a creepy sort of pido, bani, the dinosaur. I only say pido because

1:36.1

it's like that person who's at the park who doesn't have a kid. I felt that way being at a pool party

1:40.3

but not having a swimsuit and keeping all of my clothes on while everyone else is half naked

1:45.0

and being vulnerable and I'm not. So that was a bit awkward but almost immediately I was drawn

1:53.7

into a fascinating and small talk free conversation with today's guest. Her name was Amanda Montel.
