Music Hello, friends. Welcome back to the rabbit hole. I'm your host of Danny, and today we are talking about Jones Town. So the last two weeks we covered Scientology, which was a lot. And it had a lot of cult like references and

ideologies, ideations, because it's basically a cult. And so I did a poll on Instagram to see

how many of you were interested in an episode on

Jones Town because Jones Town is also a cult and there are a lot of similarities between

Scientology and Jonestown. So this will be more like a history episode but I'm sure if we look

hard enough we can find a conspiracy in there. And honestly, like, Jim Jones believed in a lot of

conspiracies and he put that out there to his people and they believed him too. So maybe it's

not always good to follow someone that no, that believes conspiracy theories. I don't know. You guys all

listen to me, so.

But on November 18th, 1978, roughly 900 people died in a mass murder suicide in Guyana.

But how did we get there? Like, what led to that? Well, a little man named Jim Jones. I don't know if he was little. He just, maybe. I don't know. I don't know his height and his weight.

But Jim Jones was born on May 13th, 1931 in Crete, Indiana. His father, James Thurman Jones, was a disabled world war one veteran and he had suffered like breathing

difficulties due to chemical warfare and because of these injuries the jones family had financial

difficulties because in the 30s men worked women stayed home to raise the babies makes sense but also

what else was happening in the 30s?

We had the depression.

So, of course, like, him not being able to work, and the financial difficulties led to

marital problems between James and Jim's mother, Lynetta.
