Welcome back to the Catholic Spouts podcast.

This year we are journeying through the Gospels,

or at least we will begin doing that next week.

We are on our final day of preparation.

We are talking a lot about the Gospels who wrote them, how we read them.

And today we're going to cover the last piece before we dive into the Gospel of Matthew.

And this is about the Synopticic gospels. So as I said,

we're going to be reading all four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the order that they appear in the Bible. And so the first three gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, have many similarities. And you'll notice that.

We'll hear a lot of the same story over three times. And instead of thinking that maybe that will be

boring, I really challenge you to listen closely to the differences and to just try to attune your ear to the subtle messages,

the subtle themes that God brings out in each. Because although we're often going to hear

the same story, there's different themes, there's different words that go with each. There's plenty to talk about.

So let's talk a little bit about the synoptic gospels. Synoptic means view together.

And as we read Matthew, Mark, and Luke, you're going to hear that the stories, the order those stories appear, even the language and the narrative

style are all similar. Now, there are things that only appear in Matthew, or only appear in

Mark or only appear in Luke. There's plenty of those things. But a lot of the content is
