Today is day 71.

We are reading from the Gospel of Mark, Chapter verses 14 through 33 where we will hear the story of the death of John the Baptist.

I'm reading from the New American translation of the Bible, and I ask you please to join me in prayer as we open our hearts to receive God's message. In the name of the Father

and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created.

And you will renew the face of the earth.

Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark, chapter 6, verses 14 through 33.

King Herod heard about it, for his fame had become widespread, and people were saying, John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why mighty powers are at work in him.

Others were saying, he is Elijah. Still others, he is a prophet like any of the

prophets. But when Herod learned of it, he said, it is John whom I beheaded. He has been

raised up. Herod was the one who had John arrested at bound in prison on account of Herodius,

the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married. John had said to Herod,

It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. Herodius harbored a grudge against him and wanted to kill him, but was unable to do

so. Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and kept him in custody. When he heard

him speak, he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him.

She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday, gave a banquet for his courtiers,
