Hey, welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast where we are reading the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 56 of this journey.

We are starting the gospel of Mark today. And we'll be reading from chapter 1 verses 1 through 13, where we will hear about Jesus' baptism. I'm reading from the New

American translation of the Bible. I encourage you to follow along and take notes. Also,

remember that God's Holy Word is alive and active. So let's

open our hearts in prayer to receive what God has for us. In the name of the Father and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark, chapter 1, verse 1 through 13.

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,

Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you. He will prepare your way. A voice of one

crying out in the desert to prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. John the Baptist

appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. People of the whole Judean countryside and all the

inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River

as they acknowledged their sins. John was clothed in camel hair with a leather belt around his waist.

He fed on locusts and wild honey.

And this is what he proclaimed.
