Welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast,

where we are reading through the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 32 of this journey.

We are in the Gospel of Matthew, and today we are reading the second half of chapter 18, verses 21 through 35. In today's passage, you will hear a couple of things, but one of them will be the parable of the unforgiving servant.

Now, I am reading from the New American translation of the Bible.

As I read, I encourage you to follow along and take notes.

And of course, let's open our heart up to God's message communicated to us through this passage.

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them

the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew chapter 18 verses 21 through 35.

Then Peter asked, Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him?

As many as seven times? Jesus answered, I say to you, not seven times, but 77 times. That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting, a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount.

Since he had no way of paying it back,

his master ordered him to be sold along with his wife,

his children, and all his property, in payment of the debt.

At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said, Be patient with me, Lord, and I will pay you back in full.
