Welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast as we work our way through the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 27.

We are in the gospel of Matthew and we'll be reading all of chapter 14 today. Among other things,

you will see Jesus walk on water. Now, I am reading from the New American Translation of the Bible. I encourage you to follow along and take notes. And also remember that God's holy word is alive and active. So let's

pray that the Holy Spirit can open our heart to receive God's Holy Word. In the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth. Amen.

A reading from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 14, verses 1 through 34.

At that time, Herod the Tetriarch, heard of the reputation of Jesus, and said to his servants,

This man is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead.

That is why mighty powers are at work in him. Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him

in prison on account of Herodius, the wife of his brother Philip, for John has said to him,

it is not lawful for you to have her. Although he wanted to kill him, he feared the people,

for they regarded John as a prophet. But at a birthday celebration for Herod, the daughter of Herodius performed a dance before the guest and delighted Herod, so much that he swore to give her whatever she might ask for.

Promoted by her mother, she said, Give me here on a platter, the head of John the Baptist. The king was distressed,

but because of his oaths and the guests who were present, he ordered that it be given,

and he had John beheaded in the prison. His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl,
