Hey there, welcome back to our reading of the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 164 of this journey.

We are in the Gospel of John, specifically reading today, chapter 5 5 verses 1 through 29, where we will hear the account of Jesus curing a man on the Sabbath.

Now I'm reading from the new American translation of the Bible as always, but before we dive in, let's pray.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John

Chapter 5 verses 1 through 29.

After this, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Now, there is in Jerusalem at the sheep gate a pool called in Hebrew Bessida, with five porticles.

In these lay a large number of ill, blind, lame, and crippled.

One man was there who had been ill for 38 years.

When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been ill for a long time, he said to him,

Do you want to be well?

The sick man answered him, sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up.

While I am on my way, someone else gets down there before me.

Jesus said to him, rise, take up your mat and walk.

Immediately the man became well, took up his mat and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath.

So the Jews said to the man who was cured, it is a Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry your mat. He answered them,
