We are reading the Gospels this school year,

and today is Day 159 of this journey.

We are reading from the Gospel of John,

specifically chapter 2 verses 13 through 25, where we will hear the story of Jesus cleansing the temple. As always, I'm reading from the new American

translation of the Bible, but before we begin, let's pray. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen

come holy spirit fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love

send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth, amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John chapter 2, verses 13 through 25.

Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as money changers

seated there.

He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area with the sheep and oxen

and spilled the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

And to those who sold doves, he said,

Take these out of here and stop making my father's house a marketplace.

His disciples recalled the words of scripture,

Zeal for your house will consume me. At this the Jews answered and said to him,
