Hey there, welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast where we are reading the Gospels this school year.

Today is Day 157 of this journey, and we are reading from the Gospel of John, specifically chapter 1,

verses 19 through 51.

In this passage, we are going to hear about St. John the Baptist's testimony of Jesus Christ.

As always, I am reading from the new American translation of the Bible.

But first, let's pray.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirits and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth.

Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John, chapter 1, verses 19 through 51.

And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, who are you? He admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, I am not the Messiah.

So they asked him, what are you then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. And are you a prophet?

He answered, no. So they said to him, who are you so we can give an answer to

those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself? He said, I am the voice of one crying out

in the desert. Make straight the way of the Lord. As Isaiah, the prophet said, some Pharisees were also sent.

They asked him, why then do you baptize if you were not the Messiah or Elijah or the prophet?
