Welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast where we are reading through the Gospels this school year.

Today is day 150, and today is our very last day in the gospel of Luke. Today we are reading the last section chapter 24 verses 36 through 51 where we will hear the account of Jesus's ascension into heaven.

I'm reading from the new American translation of the Bible, but before we begin, let's pray.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth

amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen a reading from the

holy gospel according to luke chapter 24 verses 36 through 51 while they were still speaking about this he stood in their midst and said to them

peace be with you they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost then he said

to them why are you troubled and why do questions arise in your heart? Look at my hands and my feet,

that it is myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.

And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. They were still incredulous for joy and were

amazed. And he asked them, have you anything to eat? They gave him a piece of baked fish. He took it

and ate it in front of them. He said to them, these are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and Psalms must be fulfilled.

Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures.

And he said to them,

Thus it is written that the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached in his name to all the nations beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my father upon you,

but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.
