Hey Sprouts, welcome back to the Catholic Sprouts podcast where we are reading the gospel this school year.

We are on day 101 and starting the Gospel of Luke.

This week we will be doing some background on this gospel,

so we're ready to dive in next week. But regardless, let's start today with a prayer.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you will renew the face of the earth.

Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Okay, so the Gospel of Luke. Now, we've read

Matthew, we've read Mark, and now we're reading Luke. And if you remember the background,

we went through at the beginning of the gospel in a year journey. We know that these three

gospels have a lot of similar stories, a similar sort of timeline.

So you might be like, oh, my, same things again.

Let me tell you, you are going to love Luke's gospel.

You probably know many of these stories, but it's beautiful to see how it fits together.

And also, Luke is a very different author.

Now, there is some debate, of course, about who wrote Mark's gospel, but there is none about who wrote Luke's gospel.

From the very beginning through the church fathers, desert fathers, all the way through today,

we all agree that this gospel was written by a man named Luke,

who was a Gentile, meaning he was not part of the Jewish people. He was also a physician.

So he worked to, you know, care for the sick and the poor, a little bit different than we think
