0:28.8	Hey there's sprouts. Today is Friday, May 20th, 2020. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are talking about Marian apparitions, some of my favorite stories. We've already
0:34.6	talked about Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Our Lady of Good Help, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Lords, Our Lady of Fatima.
0:42.3	And today we are talking about the most current, fully approved Marian apparition, which happened all the way in Rwanda, Africa, Our Lady of Cabejo.
0:56.2	Now, like we have said all week, Mary always appeared at a specific time and a specific place,
1:02.5	and oftentimes she is addressing what is happening in that place at that time.
1:07.3	This is true for Our Lady of Cabejo.
1:10.5	Now, to understand her, we need to talk at first about Rwanda.
1:15.0	Now, Rwanda is located on the continent of Africa, and like many places in Africa, it has a complicated history.
1:26.0	Rwanda was colonized by European forces. After World War I, the Belgians
1:33.6	entered Rwanda. They took it over and they did something pretty terrible that was going to have
1:39.5	a big impact on history. To try to make sense of the people in Rwanda, they categorized them into tribes.
1:48.4	Two main tribes, the Hutu and the Tutsis.
1:53.0	And they split people up based on the shapes of their faces.
1:57.1	They liked the Tutsis better, so they gave these people more land, more power in the government
2:03.6	and in business, and the Hutus, they made servants. Now, imagine that you are a Hutu, and you
2:12.4	were told just because of the way you look, you couldn't do very much and you would be a servant.
2:17.9	Chances are you'd be pretty upset. And so this went on for a long, long time, and you're right.
2:23.9	The Hutus were very upset. So this brings us up to the 1980s. So Rwanda was very rural. People did not have modern technology even in the 1980s. And the small town of
2:38.0	Cabejo was very small. It was just a couple of huts. It would be hard to even get a car there.
2:44.7	And the largest building in town was a boarding school run by nuns for Catholic girls.
2:51.6	It was at this boarding school that Mary began to appear.
