| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:38.0 | Hey there, Spouts. Today is Thursday, March 10th, 2020. So this week we are talking about the second deadly sin, envy, when we feel joy at another person's misery or misery at another person's joy. |
| 0:41.7 | Talked about how envy kills love between people. |
| 0:46.1 | Now, today we're going to listen to Jesus as he speaks from the cross. |
| 0:51.4 | Venerable Fulton Sheen looked at the seven things that Jesus said from the cross, and he realized that Jesus is speaking directly to these deadly sins |
| 0:57.1 | in our heart and offering us important lessons. So the words we're going to investigate today |
| 1:02.8 | are these. Jesus turned to the good thief and he said, this day, you shall be with me in paradise. And this is from Luke chapter 22, |
| 1:15.8 | verse 43. So now how does this speak to envy? Well, to understand this, we need to think about |
| 1:23.3 | both of the criminals that were crucified with Jesus. We have the good thief, who we now know |
| 1:31.0 | as Saint Dismus. That's right, he's a saint. And then we have the unrepentant thief on the other side. |
| 1:39.1 | And so to get the whole story of both of these criminals and what they said to Jesus. Let's go read directly from Luke's |
| 1:45.8 | gospel. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him. Aren't you the Messiah? Save |
| 1:55.1 | yourself and us. But the other criminal rebuked him. Don't you fear God, he said. |
| 2:02.7 | Since you are under the same sentence, we are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. |
| 2:11.7 | But this man has done nothing wrong. |
| 2:15.1 | Then he said to Jesus, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. |
| 2:23.2 | Jesus answered him, truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise. So those are the two |
| 2:32.7 | men, right? One who does not believe, who's simply thinking about himself, |
| 2:39.1 | if you're the Messiah, then save yourself and us. And the other that looks at Jesus and sees |
| 2:46.8 | his pain and sees the truth and humbles himself. So with these two criminals, we are given |
| 2:54.7 | the two ways that we respond when we see another person, whether that person is having |
| 3:00.0 | something good happen or something bad happen. We can either see their pain and only think |
