| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:29.4 | Hey there, Spouts. Today is Friday, January 7th, 2021. Now this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are talking about our Blessed Virgin Mary, our mother, and we're specifically |
| 0:35.7 | looking at the titles that she has that have to do with being a mother. |
| 0:40.7 | We've already talked about Mary the Most Holy Mother of God, Mary the mother of the church, Mary the mother of mercy, and also Mary our gentle mother. |
| 0:52.9 | Now, today we are going to talk about Mary, mother, most |
| 0:57.4 | sourful. We also sometimes say this title as Our Lady of Sorrows. So we've been talking about a lot |
| 1:05.0 | of beautiful things, but it is important to remember that Mary experienced some very difficult, some very sorrowful things as the mother of God. |
| 1:16.4 | She witnessed Jesus' rejection, but ultimately she witnessed his death. |
| 1:21.7 | She witnessed him succumbing to it, him being scourged, rejected by the Jewish people, crowned with thorns, |
| 1:29.3 | carrying his cross through the streets of Jerusalem, nailed to a cross, and ultimately dying. |
| 1:36.1 | One of my most favorite images of Mary is called the Pieta, which means pity. |
| 1:43.6 | And in this image is oftentimes shown in a sculpture, |
| 1:47.0 | Mary is there holding the dead body of her son. Now anyone that loves another person |
| 1:56.0 | can just imagine how horrible this is. But scripture tells us that Mary was there suffering with Jesus. |
| 2:03.8 | In fact, that a sword pierced her heart, that she, in a way, was very much part of that |
| 2:13.6 | suffering experienced on Calvary. Jesus, of course, could have done it alone. |
| 2:19.1 | He is God. |
| 2:20.6 | But through Mary's example, we can see that God values our suffering too. |
| 2:28.3 | That he wants us to stand there at the foot of the cross, to not only see how much he loves us, but to offer our own suffering |
| 2:37.5 | with his. And this is exactly what Mary did. Standing at the foot of the cross, she offered her |
| 2:45.1 | own suffering. She didn't look away. She didn't run away like the other apostles. She didn't go and |
| 2:50.7 | scream at the Romans to get him off of the cross and stop doing that. |
