Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, January 4th, 2021. Today is also another great feast day for all of us living in the United States. Today is the feast day of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, an American-born saint. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton lived at the end of the 1700s, the beginning of the 1800s. She lived in New York State. She was born a Protestant

into a fairly wealthy family and enjoyed a good education and other fine things. She married a good man,

0:57.3

they had five children, things were looking great until her husband's business fell apart.

1:03.3

They had no more money. And then her husband got terribly sick. So in order to enjoy some

1:09.2

nicer weather, they traveled to Italy, hoping he would be cured,

1:12.7

but instead he soon died. Well, in Italy, St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton met some wonderful people

1:18.8

that brought her to Holy Mass. And it was there that she encountered for the first time,

1:24.6

Jesus Christ, present in the Eucharist. When she turned to the United States,

1:29.9

she decided to convert to the Catholicism. Unfortunately, her friends and family in New York

1:35.7

found this horrifying. They abandoned her. So not only was she a widow and mother to five children,

1:42.4

but she had no money and no friends and no

1:45.1

family. But she was confident and she would not abandon Jesus in the Eucharist. So instead,

1:51.2

she devoted her life to helping the poor. Soon she started a school to educate those that were

1:56.1

poor. Eventually, she decided to found a religious order to become known as Mother Seton.

2:03.5

Many of her own daughters joined this order, and she gave her life to educate the poor.

2:09.5

She has an incredible legacy of boldly following Jesus, found in the Eucharist, even when it is hard,

2:16.7

and also devoting our lives to those that are most

2:19.9

in need. St. Elizabeth and Seton, pray for us. Now, this week on the Catholic Spouts podcast,

2:27.5

we are talking about our Blessed Virgin Mary, our mother, Jesus' mother, and all of the fabulous titles that she has been given.

2:36.3

Now, she has been given many titles that we won't be talking about this week.

2:40.4

We're mostly talking about the ones where we are reminded that she is the mother of God and also our mother.
