0:51.9	Today is also a solemnity.
0:57.5	Today is the solemnity of the Immaculate conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
1:04.4	So happy feast day, feel for free to celebrate. But today is a beautiful day that we oftentimes don't understand. Today is based on newish Catholic teaching. It was only officially made doctrine in the year 1854, so just over 150 years ago, although this is something that was celebrated and honored throughout the church long before that.
1:24.2	So on the immaculate conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are acknowledging as the
1:29.1	church says that Mary was preserved, free from all stain of original sin, even at the very first
1:40.1	moment of her conception. That this, of course, was done through Jesus Christ, that this is a
1:48.1	special gift that he gave his mother. We believe that she was given this gift so that she
1:53.2	truly was the perfect vessel through which Christ, God himself, entered the world.
2:03.3	So this is a beautiful day to celebrate Mary,
2:09.9	to celebrate God's generosity, to have an extra piece of dessert, and also to remember that it is a solemnity. So it is a day also that we go to Mass. Now this week on the Catholic
2:16.8	Sprout's podcast, we are talking about how the Catholic
2:19.1	Church is the only place where we can go and authentically receive forgiveness. We've already
2:24.5	talked about how in the Christian faith, we believe that sin is something we need to root out
2:30.9	of our lives. And we don't do that by actually doing something, but by actually
2:36.5	accepting something, by accepting God's forgiveness, mercy, which was purchased through God's own
2:45.6	blood sacrificed on the cross. So the next question is, how do we actually receive this forgiveness?
