My name is Danielle Koboschik from Fem Catholic, and I am so excited that I get to spend the week ahead with you.

The Catholic Church knows that women are important and has actually canonized or made

saints a lot of very holy women.

There are four women saints in particular that I'm excited to share with you this week.

These four women are called Doctors of the Church,

so we're going to be talking about them Monday through Thursday,

and then on Friday we'll be talking

about Mother Mary. Now, these doctors of the church aren't like the ones that you visit for a checkup.

A doctor of the church is a saint who is also a special teacher. They help us to understand what the church teaches.

Today we are talking about St. Teresa of Avila.

Her feast day is on October 15th,

and sometimes she's referred to as St. Teresa of Jesus.

She was born in Spain in 1515, way before cars or planes.

She was actually the first woman saint who was made a doctor of the church. St. Teresa was always very full of energy. When she was little, she loved to read stories about the saints with her brother.

They once tried to run away to Africa, to tell people about Jesus, just like the saints they read about in their books.

They didn't get very far because their

uncle found them and brought them home. Her brother blamed the whole thing on St. Teresa.
