You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:23.8

Hey there, Sprouts.

0:27.2

Today is Thursday, September 16th, 2021.

0:32.4

All week we have been talking about defenses for the existence of God.

0:40.5

Things that prove that God exists, even though he exists outside of time and space, so we can't take a picture of him, but we know he is there. I've talked about the universe and morality. Now, today,

0:47.5

we are going to talk about what might be the most powerful clue for the existence of God,

0:53.2

and this is intelligent design.

0:57.4

Intelligent design.

0:59.4

Now, chances are you're in a science class right now, or you are studying science in some way.

1:05.8

And you'll probably notice that no matter what branch of science you're studying, there seems to be structure and order.

1:15.8

So much structure and order, in fact, that we can almost make predictions about what will happen.

1:22.8

For example, with biology, you can predict if you have two plants pollinate each other. You can predict what the

1:33.6

plant that grows will be like, what color the flower will be. With meteorology, the study of weather,

1:41.4

we oftentimes are hearing predictions of what weather will come based on what's

1:46.8

happening now or what we know about high pressure and low pressure and all sorts of things.

1:53.2

And even in geology, right, we can study what is happening and make predictions about when a volcano

1:59.7

will erupt or when an earthquake will

2:02.0

occur. Now, this is because the world that we live in, it is ordered. It is intelligible.

2:10.7

That means we can understand it. So that is the world that we live in. Now, science also has explanations for why the world

2:23.7

changes in the way it does. And oftentimes those explanations do not include God. One of those

2:31.2

explanations is evolution. Now, evolution is a big, big term. It can be as simple as explaining why a lizard that used to be green is now kind of an orangey green to blend into its desert environment. But on the big scale, especially in science that

2:54.3

denies the existence of God, evolution can be used to explain the existence of human beings.
