You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

0:38.3

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Wednesday, September 8th, 2021. This week we are talking about why we as Catholics need to understand what we believe. We've already talked about the fact that the incredible minds that God gave us were created to seek truth, and he is truth.

0:41.1

So you were created to seek God and to understand Him as well as you can.

0:46.0

The second reason that you need to understand what you believe is because someday you will

0:52.7

be an adult in the faith, and you will have to declare publicly

0:56.6

that you believe or you do not believe. So let's start understanding now. Now today, the third

1:04.5

reason why you need to understand your faith is probably maybe what popped to mind right off

1:10.8

the bat for you. It's what came to mind

1:12.9

first for me. And this reason why you need to understand your faith is simply that your Catholic

1:19.8

1:30.6

Catholic. Everyone understands what the rosary is or talks about going to confession. And that's

1:36.7

wonderful. I hope you're growing up in that environment. But once you leave the home, if you, let's say, go to a big public high school, like I did,

1:47.6

or if you move away and you go to college far from home, these are both good things and Christ dwells

1:54.4

everywhere. But in these situations, your faith very likely will be under attack. And this will come in two ways. First of all,

2:04.1

when I was in high school, I went to a big public high school and I made some incredible friends

2:09.1

that I'm still friends with all these years later. But most of the friends that I made,

2:14.7

they did not go to the Catholic elementary school with me. They went to the public

2:18.9

school, and when I met them in high school, they were Protestant, and some of them were very

2:24.4

active, very devout, beautiful. But as you likely know, a Protestant, they believe in Jesus Christ,

2:32.1

but they do not have the fullness of the truth. We belong to the church

2:37.3

created by Christ, and way back hundreds of years ago, people broke away from the Catholic faith,

2:44.4

and they became various Protestant denominations. Many of them are very good at quoting the Bible,
