You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast beatitude, which Christ said

0:39.2

as said it this way. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. On Monday, we talked

0:46.8

about how a pure heart means that we see things correctly and that impurity comes from the thoughts that we have, not from an object

0:56.8

itself. Next, we talked about how a pure heart is an undivided heart. It is completely given to

1:03.8

Christ and it loves, it believes, and it hopes completely.

1:15.7

Yesterday, we talked about how just like when our glasses are dirty and we can't look out into the world and see correctly, when our heart is dirty, we can't look out into the world

1:20.5

and see Christ, who is there.

1:23.3

So today we are going to talk about our mind.

1:27.2

Now, I know this is the pure in heart, but as we know,

1:30.8

a lot of the impurities that we wrestle with take place in the quiet and the hidden of our mind,

1:38.6

whether we are having sinful temptations or thoughts. It is important that we understand how to deal with this.

1:48.3

So the first thing I want you to know is that every single person has thoughts pop into their

1:54.9

mind that are sinful. And in fact, a sinful thought that pops into your mind is actually not a sin.

2:02.7

It can just pop in there for no reason, and we don't maybe even know why.

2:08.0

The sin occurs, however, with what we do with that thought.

2:14.3

When the thought pops in, you have a choice.

2:16.8

You can say, am I going to keep thinking about

2:20.2

this and make plans and spend some time really developing this thought? Or am I going to turn away from it

2:29.1

and say no to this thought? So that's the question and that is the most important question.

2:37.4

Now, it takes discipline because sometimes these thoughts or these fantasies, they can be a nice

2:45.3

distraction and we can just be lazy and fall into them, but it takes discipline and strength, mental strength,

2:52.8

to say no. So this is something everyone is working on, managing the purity of their thoughts.
