You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast is also the feast day, Jane Francis De Chantal. Now all week, we have been talking about being pure of heart. If you remember, we've talked about how purity is how we

see something. In fact, objects are not pure or impure. It is the thoughts that we have while we see

them. We've also talked about how being pure of heart means that our heart is undivided, that it is fully given in love to God.

And yesterday we talked about faith, hope, and love, how a pure heart fully believes, fully hopes, and fully loves.

Now today, we're going to talk about the second half of this beatitude.

So let's just reread it from Matthew chapter 5, verse 8.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

So that second half is they will see God.

Now, what you're probably thinking is that if you're pure in heart, you will

see God in heaven. And yes, that's probably true. But we also can learn from this beatitude

that if we have a purity of heart, we will be given the gift of seeing and acknowledging God even here on

earth. So here's an example I want you to think about. If you wear glasses, and maybe you

probably put glasses on before if you don't wear them, you realize that if your glasses are

dirty, particularly if they're

really dirty, it can be hard to see. You know, if they're scummy or if you got splashed in the

face and there's water residue on there, right? You can't really see. And if you just continue to

look through dirty glasses, you would mistake people or not see important

things, right? Well, so the same is true with our hearts. If our hearts, or dirty, or if they are

impure, then when you look out at the world, we will see things incorrectly. If we allow sin,

temptation, and selfishness to cover our heart, just like mud or scratches can cover glasses,

then when we look out at the world, we won't see the truth, right? And the truth is that

each person we encounter was made in the image and likeness of God. And each person we encounter
