| 0:27.6 | Yesterday we started our look at the second of the beatitudes. |
| 0:32.6 | We are looking at the beatitudes from the gospel of Matthew in chapter 5. |
| 0:38.9 | And the second beatitude is this. |
| 0:41.7 | Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. |
| 0:46.8 | Yesterday we explored how Jesus sees our pain and how in order to be happy, we need to |
| 0:53.9 | turn to him for comfort, not think we're |
| 0:57.6 | going to get it from other people or from distractions or that we're going to be able to fix |
| 1:01.9 | ourselves, but that we will only be happy if our comfort comes from Christ. |
| 1:09.3 | Now, there are several other important lessons that we can pull out of this |
| 1:13.8 | beatitude. And today, we are going to talk about the important call to repentance. Now, repentance |
| 1:23.6 | is a big word, but it's something that we experience from the time we are very little. |
| 1:29.6 | Repentance is when we have done something bad or even got into a bad habit. |
| 1:35.7 | We realize that it is wrong. |
| 1:38.5 | We ask for forgiveness and we decide to live differently and to start again. |
| 1:45.4 | That is repentance, to repent for our past sins. |
| 1:50.7 | But something that is important that Christ points out here is that we should be quite |
| 1:58.4 | sad, even to the point of crying, when we think about the ways that we have sinned against Jesus. |
| 2:07.2 | And in fact, being sad about our sins is important. |
| 2:13.0 | Christ is saying, blessed are those who mourn, who look back on the sins that they have committed |
| 2:19.7 | and that they feel sadness. Now, if you do something nasty and you don't feel bad about it at all, |
