Today is Monday, June 28th, 2021.

Now, all week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are going to be talking about two of the most influential men in entire church history.

They also celebrate their feast days tomorrow together.

And these two men are Saints Peter and Paul.

Now, these two men lived at the same time, but they had totally different

experiences of Christ. And even today, they continue to impact the way the church works,

what we know about Christ, what we believe. They are so, so important. So we're going to spend

time talking about them together, but also talking about them separately.

So the reason why saints Peter and Paul, even though they are so important, why they share

a feast day tomorrow on June 29th, is because way back since the very beginning when Rome became a Christian empire,

when the Emperor Constantine converted, that day, June 29th, has been honored as the day

when both St. Peter and St. Paul were executed in Rome. So they were both executed on that same day.

They were executed in different ways. St. Paul was a Roman citizen, so he requested that he would be

beheaded outside of the city gates. Since St. Peter was not a Roman citizen, he was crucified, and he requested that he'd be

crucified upside down because he didn't feel worthy to die in the same way as Jesus Christ. But both

of them who had lived in Jerusalem, they both were called to Rome. They were called to found the capital of the church there

in Rome, and they died under Emperor Nero in the great persecution of Christians that was taking
