Now this week, we are going to pick up, once again, our tour of our own churches as we look around and rediscover,

re-understand the things we see and the things that we experience each Sunday when we are at Holy Mass.

So this week we're going to start out sort of where the congregation sits.

We're going to look to the exterior to the walls.

Most churches, I hope this is true in your churches.

One thing you will see hanging on the walls are the stations of the cross.

The stations of the cross are images, pictures, they can be carvings or paintings or something

in that nature, that show Jesus' journey with his cross to the point of crucifixion,

the actual crucifixion, and then Jesus being laid in the tomb.

Now, these, of course, are there to remind us of the great sacrifice that Christ gave for us. Also, particularly during Lent, most churches will use these

stations to go through a meditation on the stations of the cross. Sometimes you will see people actually walking around

the exterior of the church stopping at each of these stations. Now, maybe you haven't thought about

that word before, but station. Why do we call it a station? Well, it's been the name of these for a long

time, but what I like to think is if you are on a train,

you know, a train will travel a long distance, but it stops often, and each time it stops it is at a

station. People get on and off and the train keeps going. So it's almost like when we're
